Step 4: Installing Panel Sets

This step refers to the installation of only panels on to a refrigerator that is equipped with trim provided by the refrigerator manufacturer. Please refer to your refrigerator owner’s manual for proper instructions covering the removal & re-installation of their trim and Panel installation

When trim is removed, the custom built and sized Panels will “slide” into position.

Step 5: Installing Signature Stainless Set or One Piece Frames & Panel Set or One Piece Frame

Side by Side Models with Ice & water Dispenser

Do not yet remove covering from adhesive strips on all the edges of the frames.

Slide One Piece Frame over freezer door, making sure that the adhesive tabs are sticking out from each corner.  Top edge of frame has a horseshoe cut out to fit around the top door hinge. Now, check to see if frame fits properly on door. Frame should fit “snug” and even on all sides of the door. Tilt top of the frame away from the top of the door enough to insert the panel into back of the frame. The Panel side with the protective paper peeled away from the edges ( Step 5) should be facing out. Tilt frame and panel back into position on door. If door is equipped with an Ice & water Dispenser, make sure panel is positioned evenly around Ice & Water Dispenser molding. When frame & panel are positioned correctly, carefully remove the masking tape holding the adhesive tabs to the side of the Frame. Then slowly pull the adhesive tabs, up along the Frame, to remove protective covering from the adhesive on all four sides of the frame. Apply firm pressure with your hand along edges to affix adhesive to door edges. Figure 4 Repeat procedure for other door.

If after installation is completed, if the doors rub against one another, it will be necessary for you to adjust the door spacing.  See Step 6

Top/Bottom Mount Models

Each frame is equipped with a precision cut hole/cut-out on top edge of frame, for accepting the refrigerator hinge pin. Therefore it will be necessary to remove the doors from the refrigerator cabinet prior to panel installation.

Remove plastic decorative cover from top hinge. Then remove screws securing hinge and remove hinge. Lifting up on door will allow you to remove door from cabinet.

Remove screws from center/middle hinge and remove hinge, allowing you to lift off bottom door.

Place doors on a flat work area and follow the same installation & alignment procedures as described above for the installation of the one piece frame & panel on a Side by Side model.

After panels are installed on doors, place bottom door over bottom hinge pin and then re-install center hinge. Place top door over center hinge pin and re-install top hinge. It is important that the doors are aligned level, so that the spacing between the doors is even and to insure that doors are seated properly. See Step 7

 Step 6: Door Spacing

If doors rub against each other when opening, you will need to re-space them. Take two (2) one foot pieces of corrugated cardboard (use pieces of box kit was sent in) and fold in half. Starting with the freezer side door loosen, but do not remove, the screws holding the top hinge. Place one piece of the folded cardboard about 15 inches down from top and the other piece of cardboard 15 inches from bottom as shown.
Figure 5

Close the doors as far as possible and tighten down the hinge screws. This should create a wider space between doors, so that doors don’t rub together. If sufficient space was not gained, repeat the process on the other door. Using the two (2) pieces of cardboard will prevent the door from hanging unevenly.

Step 7: Door Alignment

After you have installed the panels, and especially if your refrigerator was a top/bottom mount model, where it was necessary to remove doors for installation of panels, it is important to make sure doors are level and are seated in the correct position. Figure 6

By loosening the screws holding the top hinges, positioning the doors so that the gap between the doors is even, and then tightening back up the screws, should insure correct door alignment.
